Your date of taking up employment generally determines which scheme you are in, although there are some exceptions depending on indivual circumstances.

Schemes and dates

  • if you joined before 1 October 2002 you would have been enrolled in classic. Classic members in post on 30 September 2002 were given the choice of remaining in classic or moving to premium or classic plus from 1 October 2002
  • new entrants from 1 October 2002 joined premium, those who joined from 30 July 2007 were enrolled in nuvos and from 1 April 2015 alpha has been the relevant scheme for new entrants. Partnership has also been available to new entrants from 1 October 2002 for staff who do not want to remain in the main schemes
  • the majority of members in post on 31 March 2015 moved to alpha from 1 April 2015. However, if you were within 10 years of your normal scheme pension age on 1 April 2012 you will have remained in your existing scheme. If you were between 10 and 13.5 years away from your normal pension scheme age on 1 April 2012, you were given the choice of moving to alpha from either 1 April 2015 or a later date determined by your age
