European Union Structural Funds in Northern Ireland

In the 2007-2013 funding round, Northern Ireland receives EU Structural Funds under the  EU Cohesion Policy. Because of the increasing prosperity of the region measured against average European Union wealth, we no longer require support at the highest level (Convergence Objective) but still expect to receive approximately €1.1 billion from all streams of European Funding.

The

European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme

and the

European Social Fund Programme

are funded by the Regional Competitiveness and Employment objective, which aims at strengthening competitiveness and attractiveness, as well as employment.

The

PEACE III programme

and the

INTERREG IVA Programme

are funded under the European Territorial Co-operation objective which aims at strengthening cross-border, transnational and interregional co-operation. Both these programmes fall within the cross-border co-operation aspect of the objective.
