Northern Ireland Self Service Pilot

Delivering services using
the Internet is generally more cost effective than other channels, and is more convenient to the citizen.
However, the initial work involved in putting services on the Internet can be expensive, sometimes
outweighing the benefits of lower cost of operation. By lowering this initial cost the equation is reversed,
making Internet-based service provision a real benefit to any public sector organisation.
Accordingly,
Lagan and the Delivery and Innovation Division of DFP have created a pilot project that uses Lagan’s
leading edge technology Frontline™ technology to minimise the initial work required. A shared
service approach with common infrastructure and hosting funded by the Delivery and Innovation Division
combine to makes this pilot an attractive proposition for any organisation providing services to the
citizen.
NDPBs, local councils and agencies will be able to provide transactional
services to the citizen through Government Gateway at minimal cost via ‘plug and
play’ integration. The pilot also provides flexible Internet Services to the citizen, an example of
which could be reporting of a broken street light or requesting an application form.
You can take advantage of Lagan’s training services to allow your in-house
resources to create on-line services. Alternatively, you can employ Lagan’s skilled resources
to do this for you.
Some of the features and benefits of the self service pilot are:
- Hosted Service – no in-house infrastructure required
- Minimal set-up and support costs
- Low cost per transaction using the Government Gateway payments engine
- No specialist IT skills required
- Rapid implementation
- ‘Plug and Play’ integration with existing organisation website
- Email confirmation (receipt) to the citizen of transaction or service request
- Tracking facility for citizens
