DID Library and Information Services takes a central lead in the provision and promotion of the departmental library services that equip NICS staff with the information they need to provide a range of public services. Using the essential skills and expertise of librarianship DID strives to become a centre of excellence for information and records management best practice.
Government Library Service
The DID led Government Library Service exists to provide a working forum for Librarians in government departments and related public bodies to develop and promote standards of excellence in the management and delivery of library and information services.
As a group it meets on a monthly basis to consider and discuss such areas as:
- Library training
- Co-operative acquisition
- Library systems development
- Library best practice advice and guidance
Information Management
DID Library and information Services are responsible for the dissemination of information management best practice within the organisation for the introduction of departmental responsibilities under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
As a result of this experience, DID Library and Information Services has become a focus for information and records management best practice within the Northern Ireland Civil Service and wider public sector.
