Future Funding 2014-2020

***Launched 12 April 2012***

PREPARING FOR THE 2014-2020 ROUND OF EUROPEAN PROGRAMMES – A REFLECTION EXERCISE

The purpose of this informal consultation exercise is to seek views on the strategic direction that the Northern Ireland Executive should set for using future European Funding for which Northern Ireland might qualify in the period 2014-2020.

While responses would be welcomed by 24 May 2012, to inform our planning, there is no formal closing date.

Note: The policy issues which are set out here are reserved to the United Kingdom Government. The appropriate Whitehall Department (e.g. Business Innovation and Skills, Treasury etc) will take the lead in producing UK positions and responses to proposals put forward by the European Commission.

In doing so, they consult with officials in the devolved administrations and the final UK documents will be circulated to the First / deputy First Ministers for endorsement.

Common Strategic Framework

Following the Cohesion Policy proposals of 6th October, and to help Member States prepare for the next programming period, the Commission presented on 12 March 2012 the "Common Strategic Framework" (CSF). It is intended to help in setting strategic direction for the next financial planning period from 2014 to 2020 in Member States and their regions. It will enable a far better combining of various funds to maximise the impact of EU investments. National and regional authorities will use this framework as the basis for drafting their 'Partnership Contracts' with the Commission, committing themselves to meeting Europe's growth and jobs targets for 2020.

Comments on the CSF may be sent to the European Commission by e-mail (REGIO-CSF@ec.europa.eu).
