The Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000
The Building Regulations (NI) 2000 (the “2000 Regulations”) set out technical requirements and reference particular provisions that are deemed to satisfy these requirements.
The 2000 Regulations may be purchased from The Stationery Office or may be viewed online on the website of the Office of Public Sector Information, www.opsi.gov.uk.
The deemed-to-satisfy provisions take the form of, Technical Booklets, British Standards or other specified publications.
The 2000 Regulations are subdivided into Parts, with each Part defining the requirements for a particular aspect of the building design and construction. These parts are:
- Part A - Interpretation and general
- Part B - Materials and workmanship
- Part C - Preparation of site and resistance to moisture
- Part D - Structure
- Part E - Fire safety
- Part F - Conservation of fuel and power
- Part G - Sound insulation of dwellings
- Part H - Stairs, ramps, guarding and protection from impact
- Part J - Solid waste in buildings
- Part K - Ventilation
- Part L - Combustion appliances and fuel storage systems
- Part N - Drainage
- Part P - Sanitary appliances and unvented hot water storage systems
- Part R - Access to and use of buildings
- Part V - Glazing
Our policy is to achieve technical harmonisation (where appropriate) with England and Wales, and the various Parts outlined above are reviewed as part of a rolling programme of work.
