Family Law Act (NI) 2001

This Act makes a further provision for the acquisition of parental responsibility by unmarried fathers.  It amends the Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1995, and provides for certain presumptions of parentage and for tests to determine parentage.

The Bill completed its Further Consideration Stage on 29th May 2001, and Final Stage was completed on 19th June 2001.  Royal Assent was obtained on 17th July 2001.  The Act came into effect on 15th April 2002.
