Tollymore Mountain Centre Project

26 Jul 2010 - CPD worked closely with DCAL and SportNI as joint promoters of the new 2,237sqm, Centre at Bryansford, Co Down.

CPD worked closely with DCAL and SportNI as joint promoters of the new 2,237sqm, Centre at Bryansford, Co Down. Glasgiven Contracts, in partnership with Knox Clayton Architects, delivered the building on time, under budget and to a very high specification. A score of BREEAM Excellent is anticipated.

The building is an attractive, innovative and environmentally sensitive structure utilising a Biomass Boiler, Solar Water Panels, extensive use of wood including structural 'Glulam' beams, enhanced insulation and many other features to deliver a low carbon design.

The Project Team fully embraced OGC’s 'Achieving Excellence' requirements utilising Risk & Quality Management, Sustainability, Design Quality Indicators, Health & Safety (including BuildSafeNI) and the Considerate Contractors scheme and an NEC3 Option C Target Price Contract.  The project encountered a number of difficulties including delays in funding and the requirement to build around, and maintain, elements of the existing Mountain Centre including a Climbing Wall.

The new Centre offers a range of modern facilities including a canoe training pool and is residential with full DDA and child protection arrangements. The development is complemented by extensive landscaping, Public Art and a New High and Low Ropes Course. Along with a Climbing Boulder this allows SportNI to offer an extensive range of opportunities and challenges to a range of Clients. Those seeking leadership, outdoor pursuit, team building and other related training events can find out more on the new website www.tollymore.com.
