Lessons Learned
Lessons Learned is a fundamental part of effective Programme and Project Management (PPM). Lessons (both positive and negative) should be collected and recorded as Programmes/Projects progress and should be written up and communicated as part of the formal closure process.
Other important sources of Lessons Learned include the Gateway Review Process, Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) & Public Accounts Committee (PAC) reports and Procurement.
A detailed study of Lessons Learned in the NI Public Sector was completed during September 2008. This work was jointly sponsored by the Central Procurement Directorate's Centre of Excellence (CPD/CoE) for Delivery and the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP) Oversight Board for Civil Service Reform. CoE/CPD will continue to take the Lessons Learned process forward and look at ways in which lessons learned can be communicated and disseminated.
