NICS IS Strategy
The Northern Ireland Civil Service IS Strategy addresses the information systems needs of the NICS for the period January 2011 – December 2014.
The strategy has been developed in collaboration with NICS Departments, through the baseline questionnaires, workshops and individual interviews.
The strategy supports the strategic direction of the NICS and identifies a number of inter-related themes including the reduction in public expenditure and the need to continually improve services to citizens.
Taking a holistic view of NICS ICT architecture, this strategy will provide the NICS with an overarching technical architecture which will deliver benefits such as the use of common standards, improved resilience and cost effectiveness across the organisation, while still awarding Departments sufficient flexibility to pursue solutions to specific business problems.
Implementation of some the recommendations within the strategy will help the NICS to achieve efficiency improvements, through consolidation of technologies and skills. It will also ensure that ICT in the NICS is robust and fit-for-purpose.
The strategy also supports many of the principles of the UK Government ICT Strategy, including increased support for Open Source and Open Standards.
